This painting came from a piece of artwork I did a long time ago,.  We lived out in the country on some acreage where we had lots of room to grow fruit trees, grape vines and a vegetable garden.  I loved seeing the grapes on the vine close to time to harvest.  When the sun went down in the afternoons and the rays shown through the grapes, it made them fairly glow.  I really wanted to capture that luminescent quality of the fruit.

     My first painting was done in pastels from a branch off of one of the plants, with two bunches of grapes.  I didn’t know if pastels would work, getting sharp, crisp outlines of the smooth orbs, but it proved to be the perfect medium.  That painting is in my daughter's, Michele Fox’s collection.

     I planned for this 14” x 11”acrylic piece on canvas panel to be used as the sample subject for my Paint Party class.  I started with an under painting of yellow ochre, some of which shows through, giving the composition a warm glow.
