  • "Oregon Waterfall"

I saw a TV program of Wyland painting a tropical waterfall.  Inspired by seeing how he achieved the look he wanted, I decided to do my own version for a Paint Party.  I found a magazine photo, of a waterfall with lots of lush greenery.

I painted this 5” x 7” miniature while watching TV as a trial.  Liking the result, I then proceeded on to the full sizes sample.

When showing my mini to my art teacher/friend, she said "Oh, that's an Oregon waterfall". On Googling "Oregon waterfall with bridge across," the name Multnomah Falls came up. I immediately recognized the name.  It is my daughter's favorite place to go, as she lives in Portland, Oregon.

The funny part about this work?  I painted it three times, before I even saw the place.   (The third work was done in my art class.)  When we were visiting in 2018, the area was closed off because of fires.  When I finally got to see the falls in 2019 I felt like I knew the trees and the bridge and the majesty of the falls, already.
