"Autumn Colors"
'Autumn Colors" started out as a picture of mountains, evergreen trees and a mountain lake, as a subject for a Paint Party. I completed one such painting previously. Someone remarked that if the mountains had so much snow on them, the trees in the foreground would be snow covered also. So, "Mountain Lake" became a wintry, snow scene.
My desire for the second canvas was to depict the same scene in the fall, with oranges and yellows mixed in with the evergreen trees. With the visual aid of two separate magazine photos, the 16" x 20" acrylic composition transformed into "Autumn Colors".
Birch trees in foreground were created with thick, sticky, drying up paint, spread on with a palette knife. I applied paint on other areas of the painting with the palette knife as well, to give depth and texture.
This piece took third place in the Riverside County Fair at the Perris Fairgrounds in October 2018, in the amateur division, acrylic category, landscape subject.
