"Cabo"
My husband Joe and I went to a networking convention, May 2019. It was a fly-away to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. Had a really great time at the resort.
While others attended a yoga class, I walked around the property with my art supplies, looking for a suitable subject to paint. I found a very beautiful tree at the entrance to the main parking lot. I had seen several on the bus ride from the airport to the hotel. It was in full bloom, with bright orange flowers at the top of yellow-green leaves. The tree looked as if it was on fire and in fact it is called a Flame Tree.
I sat across the parking lot, on the grass, in the shade of gift the shops, painting plein air with my acrylic paints on Bristol board. I wanted to make the acrylics look similar to watercolor, which I believe I achieved. I spent free time working on my composition, sitting by the pool.
At one point, I went back to the tree, and discovered there were large dark brown seed pods. My picture shows them hanging down in view, but they were in fact hidden in the foliage.
Had a really good time painting my tree, which gave me a memento of our trip.
