I have always loved covered bridges and have made them the subject of teenage drawings, which left something to be desired. "Covered Bridge" is based on a photo of a Vermont structure in a book on bridges around the United States.
This building came about through teaching my drawing class students about two point perspective. I finally achieved the realism I always wanted because I followed the proper steps in drawing a building in two point perspective.
After completing the preliminary composition, I traced the outline onto my good paper, a 12" x 16" 60# smooth surface. I also traced the image on 140# watercolor paper, in order to paint in watercolor, as well as transferring the bridge to canvas panel for an acrylic. This version is rendered in graphite pencil.
I entered this in the Arts Council Menifee February show, 2020. It won Honorable Mention when entered in the Hemet Valley Art Association gallery monthly art competition.
