"Southwest Cathedrals"
A vibrant 8" x 10" acrylic, this was done in Sally Pearce's class through Mira Costa College in Oceanside, California. We were given slick paper, to experiment on. The instruction was to not use too much water and after painting the sky in a wash, I saw why. The paper started to buckle, so I switched to straight paint with the palette knife. I dabbed and stroked and had a very fun time with the analogous colors of orange, yellow and yellow green. When I was done, discovered that it looked like the desert. This was right before I was to leave for New Mexico, to cook vegetarian meals at a camp. The eagle was added later, to create a focal point.
This composition garnered first place in Hemet Valley Art Association's Bronze first level category, for the month of March 2019.
