20" x 16"
pastels on 140 pound paper
date completed: 2/14/2016
I taught drawing a rooster in my Fundamentals of Art drawing class for people to learn how to use a grid to accurately capture the size and proportions of their subject. I knew several ladies in church who really liked roosters and have had it in my mind to paint a colorful bird for each of them.
Mine is 24” x 18” pastels on watercolor paper of a scene on the farm with barn in background and rolls of hay in newly mowed fields. The rooster stands atop a weathered fence, against a multicolored sky like at dawn, hence the Biblical name "Daybreak".
Later, I cropped the page to 20" x 16", keeping the essential portions of the image.
