I painted a sunset sky in watercolor on 9” x 12” watercolor paper. Couldn’t think of what to do for the rest of the subject, so it sat for awhile. I finally decided to make it a desert scene, with hills in the distance and saguaro cactus. Under the guidance of my art teacher Kathy Pickett, I enhanced the color in the sky by pouring watercolor paint. "Desert Sky' turned out lovely, with the purple and gold compliments, with a little blue and orange compliments in the sky.
This composition was in Hemet Valley Art Association gallery Bronze category in August 2019 and won second place. This is one of my favorites, as the painting is loose and free. Three birds were added to hide a flaw and create a definite center of interest.
