"Ho Air Balloon"
Since we lived close to Temecula, California, where there are lots of vineyards, and very good conditions for hot air ballooning, I chose this subject. I love hot air balloons, they are so colorful and graceful and romantic. I found a magazine photo of an aerial view of grape vines. The particular balloon is my favorite, which may have been used on the cover of a telephone directory published by Hibu, which used to be American Media, when we used to use paper books for phone numbers and the yellow pages.
I believe I also saw it in person. I painted this for a Paint Party sample. After my class, I repainted the main balloon to get the lines straighter and shade it more realistically. I really love this artwork. I take it to all the shows I go to, but am surprised that no one from Temecula has purchased the 20” x 16’ acrylic on watercolor paper. So I keep it in my studio, to provide brilliant color and to remind myself of what I can do when I take the time and have the patience to draw and paint perfectly.
