Put together from several photographs, "Koi" served as the subject for my Paint Parry class. I used cerulean blue and pthalo green for the water to make a more tropical looking environment than the first version. It turned out to be too bright, so later the color was adjusted using cerulean blue and burnt umber and white.
I changed the colors of the fish in "Koi 2" from my first painting. Koi fish come in orange, yellow, black, red, gray, white and sometimes blue. I chose black and red on white, an orange fish, and an all white koi with an orange circle on its head. That last one is the most favorite color pattern of the Japanese because it looks like the Japanese flag.
To represent fish under water, I drizzled gloss medium randomly over surface. I am pleased with the way this composition looks.
