"Oak Creek Ranch 2"
As a student of the Art Instruction School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, I had the opportunity to enter their Fundamentals of Art Competition every year. The first several years I passed it up, as I felt that I would be too rushed to complete anything of value.
I did decide to enter. My favorite subject at the time was this old broken down building that I found, so I painted a new version, with changes to make it better. It took me 10 hours over the course of 3 or 4 days. I managed to finish it and get it mailed on time, but that was a very intense time, doing nothing but working on that piece. No prize, but at least I did it.
This framed drawing hung on my wall for a long time, a favorite in my collection, until I painted it again. This version was reframed, entered in Hemet Valley Art Association first level Bronze category May 2019 and won first place.
