"High Desert Bloom" is composition I painted under the guidance of a local artist.  It started out with a limited palette (not very many colors) and bold shapes.  I was not satisfied with the results.

     Continuing to use his photograpgh of the desert as my source., I softened the intensity, made more values to create a better sense of distance.  One element that our teacher left out, a century plant, I added to my composition as the focal point.

     At the time of paining, there were several such plants in bloom.  My observations of color and structure were transfered to the 11" x 14" canvas in acrylic paint, and "High Desert Bloom" turned into one of my favorite pieces.

     I entered this artwork in Hemet Valley Art Association gallery competition and won first place in the Gold category.  It sold very  soon after that.  This image can be commissioned.
