"Apple Tree in Bloom at Sunrise"
I would say this is the first painting done from a vision.
I had the idea for this composition, some time ago. It came to me in a dream. I was sitting in my devotions and had fallen asleep . The sun was coming up and shone in through the window onto my face. As you may know, eyelids have a lot of blood vessels in them, so I was seeing this red color through my eyelids. The blossoms and leaves on the tree gave the image lots of contrast. When I woke up, I had a distinct feeling that I should paint this.
"Apple Tree" was the first attempt at painting in acrylics. Never finished the first version, due to challenges in using the acrylic paints. Fifteen years later I decided to try doing a painting a day or at least finish a composition in the same week it was started. In order to occomplish this goal, I made the format small. This 10" x 8" acrylic on watercolor paper is the first work to satisfy that timetable.
