Description of Garden Tomatoes"
My husband Joe went on a trip to Petaluma, California and came across an acquaintance from a long time ago, Michael Whitlow. I knew that Michael is a self-taught artist, and learned he has his own gallery in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I went to his website and viewed his paintings. Very beautiful still lifes.
Seeing his work Inspired me to do a still life, on my newly constructed still life box. Found 3 tomatoes from my garden that were very beautiful. Painted the background in Ron DiCianni's style. "Garden Tomatoes" turned out really well, I thought. The technique of glazing worked very well here to make the tomatoes glow. Even before I was done, I decided that I would paint a zucchini squash from my garden.
When I joined Hemet Valley Art Association and began entering my artwork in their competitions, this is the first one I put in, in the Bronze category, the first level. I won second place, which thrilled me.
